タイトル　Teaching Japanese EFL Students to Attain Comprehensible Second
Language Speaking Proficiency

概要
In this talk, I will provide an overview on a series of empirical
studies that my research team has been working on to help Japanese EFL
students speak up, improve and achieve comprehensible speaking
proficiency in classroom settings. First, I will discuss what
comprises a realistic goal for adult L2 speech learning
(comprehensibility rather than nativelikeness) based on the
large-scale corpus data of 200+ Japanese learners who actually use L2
English for academic/business-related purposes in Japan, the UK and
Canada. Next, I will touch on what kinds of pedagogical activities can
be devised with a view of Japanese EFL students’ enhanced confidence
and oral proficiency. To this end, I will introduce our recent
intervention projects, wherein we tested a range of research-based
techniques, such as focused instruction, tasks and corrective
feedback.

講師紹介
Kazuya Saito is a lecturer in the Department of Applied Linguistics
and Communication at Birkbeck, University of London. His research
interests include how second language learners develop various
dimensions of their speech in naturalistic settings; and how
instruction can help optimize such learning processes in classroom
contexts. He currently chairs the London Second Language Acquisition
Research Forum (L-SLARF)—a group of academics working in and around
the London area who share an interest in second language acquisition;
and serves on the Editorial Board of Language Teaching Research, TESOL
Quarterly, International Journal of Applied Linguistics and Journal of
Second Language Pronunciation. For more details, see his personal

タイトル　Emotions in Foreign Language Learning
概要
In this lecture I will present an overview of the recent surge
of interest in the field of emotion and foreign language (FL)
acquisition, after many years of neglect (Dörnyei & Ryan, 2015). My
main argument is that we should not focus too much on negative
emotions but that we should include the positive emotions that propel
the FL learners forward (Dewaele, 2018). I will present the findings
of on-going research on individual differences in learners’ FL
Enjoyment (FLE) and FL Anxiety in the FL classroom (Dewaele &
MacIntyre, 2014, Saito et al., to appear) including recent studies
showing that emotions are linked to personality traits to complex
interactions of learner internal variables and variables linked to the
teacher and teaching practices, including teacher predictability and
amount of use of the FL by the teacher (Dewaele et al, 2017). I will
finally present some pedagogical implications of these findings.
講師紹介
Dr. Jean-Marc Dewaele is Professor of Applied Linguistics and
Multilingualism at Birkbeck, University of London. He is a keen
walker, karate-kaand author of Emotions in Multiple Languages (2010).
He is President of the International Association of Multilingualism
and former president of the European Second Language Association. He
is General Editor of the International Journal of Bilingual Education
and Bilingualism. He won the Equality and Diversity Research Award
from the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (2013)
and the Robert Gardner Award for Excellence in Second Language and
Bilingualism Research (2016) from the International Association of
Language and Social Psychology.

タイトル　What can SLA Offer (not Offer) to Language Teachers?
概要
Some language teachers feel that learning about second language
acquisition (SLA) research really changed their thinking about their
approach to teaching. Many others, however, often feel SLA has little
to say about real classroom teaching. In this talk, I show new ways of
seeing the relationship between research and teaching and provide
tools for thinking about research and teaching as imperfectly and not
always obviously compatible perspectives that can nevertheless enrich
the professional lives of language teachers.
講師紹介
Dr. Lourdes Ortega is a Professor of second language acquisition at
Georgetown University. A widely published scholar and frequent plenary
speaker at international conferences, she is best known for her
award-winning meta-analysis of L2 instruction in 2000, her best-seller
textbook. Understanding Second Language Acquisition (2009, translated
into Mandarin in 2016), and for championing a bilingual turn in second
language acquisition. Her recent co-edited volumes include
Technology-Mediated TBLT: Researching Technology and Tasks (with Marta
González-Lloret), The Usage-Based Study of Language Learning and
Multilingualism and Usage-inspired L2 Instruction (both with Ande
Tyler and colleagues), Complexity Theory and Language Development: In
celebration of Diane Larsen-Freeman(with ZhaoHongHan), and The
Handbook of Bilingualism (forthcoming, with Annickde Houwer). Born,
raised, and college-educated in southern Spain, Lourdes obtained her
doctorate in the United States, where she has lived and worked since
1993. Her bilingual life in English-Spanish is enriched by several
other languages, and particularly Greek, which was once her strongest
language.

新小学校学習指導要領における外国語教育-1[:]

[:ja]テスト理論と言語テストの課題

言語テストのはじまりは、/ʃ/ の発音ができるかできないかで、敵味方を見分けるために使われたShibboleth test だと言われている (旧約聖書『士師記』12章 ギレアデ人 [シボレテ] – エフライム族 [セボレテ] )。しかし、「科学的な」テスト理論や言語テストの研究が始まったのは20世紀になってからで、その歴史は未だ100年ぐらいだと言われている。そもそも、テストすべき「言語能力」の解明も完了してはいない。本講演は、そのような歴史の中で研究が進められてきたふたつのテスト理論を概観し、言語テストの課題と将来的な研究の方向性を考える。

1. 古典的テスト理論 (Classical Test Theory: CTT)

古典的テスト理論では、正答数に基づく得点 (number right score) を使用し、真の得点と誤差得点が含まれることを前提に、基礎統計量、標準得点、信頼性、項目分析といった統計処理を行う。従来から広く使用されており、結果の検討が比較的容易であるという長所もあるが、受験者の得点がテストに依存する、あるいは、テストやテスト項目の特性が受験者に依存するために、いくつかの欠点や限界も指摘されている。

2. 項目応答理論 (Item Response Theory: IRT)

項目応答理論では、得点間の間隔のゆがみを補正するために、素点を基に自然対数を使用して変換したロジット得点を使用し、テスト項目の特性と受験者の能力との関係性を、確率論として捉える。データの解釈に専門的な知識を要するといった課題もあるが、受験者集団に依存しないテスト項目特性の算出・テストに依存しない受験者能力推定値の算出・受験者個々の項目ごとの情報量算出が可能になるといった利点がある。

3. 言語テストの課題

今後の言語テスト研究における課題としては、「言語能力」の解明へ向けての継続的な追求がまずあげられる。また、スタンダードセッティングにおける分割点 (Cut Score) の設定方法についても、潜在クラス分析 (Latent Class Analysis: LCA)・潜在ランク理論 (Latest Rank Theory: LRT)・混合ラッシュモデル (Mixture Rasch Model: MRM) といったテスト理論の新たな観点を検討しながら、より良い方法を見つけ出していかなければならない。さらに、コンピュータ技術との連携によるコンピュータ適応型テストの開発や、そのために必要なアイテムバンキングについても検討が必要である。

中村 洋一の略歴:

清泉女学院短期大学教授・国際コミュニケーション科長、youichi@seisen-jc.ac.jp　神奈川大学外語学部卒業後、長野県の高等学校で英語の教員を務め、その間、1993年に上越教育大学にて MA (教育学) を取得。常磐大学 (2000年〜2008年) を経て2009年から現職に至る。専門は言語テスト (項目応答理論・コンピュータ適応型テスト・アイテムバンキング・スタンダードセッティング)。著書・論文は『テストで言語能力は測れるか』 (2002、桐原書店)、「言語テストにおけるテスト理論とデータ分析」(2006、『世界の言語テスト』、くろしお出版)、「コンピュータ適応型テストの可能性」(2004、『日本語教育』、148 号)、「第11章 コンピュータ化された項目バンキング」の訳出 (2008、『テスト作成ハンドブック』、教育測定研究所)、「Standard Setting におけるCAN-DOリスト作成とCut Score 設定の課題」(2016、『言語研究と量的アプローチ』、金星堂) など。日本言語テスト学会事務局長を経て現在は理事。
