Conversation Analysis in the Japanese Context: Organizations of Answers to Questions in Various Settings
This symposium will be organized by Aug Nishizaka of Meijigakuin University and will feature papers by Shuya Kushida, on "iya"-prefaced answers in ordinary conversation, Aug Nishizaka, on self-initiated problem presentations by pregnant women at the responding position, and Yuri Hosoda and David Aline, on children's answers to teachers' display questions in English classes at elementary schools. (Titles of individual papers will be announced in the near future.) Plenary speaker Jack Bilmes will be a discussant.

The University of Electro-Communications is located in Chofu, Tokyo, a 5 to 10 minute walk from Chofu Station on the Keio Line. Chofu Station is approximately 15 minutes from Shinjuku Station by Special Express or Semi-Special Express. Shinjuku Station is one of the major stations in Tokyo and can be reached by train or bus from either Narita Airport or Haneda Airport.
