Internationally, PacSLRF has for many years been recognized to be a stimulating conference including colloquia and paper sessions based on empirical data couched within sound theoretical frameworks in areas of Second Language Acquisition (SLA). Topics include, but are not limited to, Linguistic, Psycholinguistic, Neurolinguistic, and Sociolinguistic
Approaches to SLA; SLA theory and Model Construction; Bilingualism and Attrition of Language(s); Effects of Second Language (L2) Instruction; Crosslinguistic Influences on First Language from L2 and on L2 from a Third Language (and vice-versa); Individual Differences (in e.g., age, gender, aptitude, personality, and motivation) in SLA; Influence of
Cognitive Variables (e.g., memory and attention) on L2 Learning and Use; and Methodological Issues in SLA Research. Working languages for the conference are English and Japanese.
Welcoming scholars from around the world, the conference is sure to provide plentiful opportunities for networking as well as both deepening and broadening your research interests.

環 太平洋第二言語研究フォーラム（Pacific Second Language Research Forum:PacSLRF）2016が、日本第二言語習得学会（Japan Second Language Association:J-SLA）の第16回年次大会との共催（中央大学後援）により、2016 年9月9から11日まで中央大学多摩キャンパス（東 京）で開催されます。

PacSLRFは第二言語習得（Second Language Acquisition: SLA）に関する、理論 的枠組みに基づいた実証研究の発表の場として、歴史ある国際大会です。SLAへ の言語学的・心理言語学的・神経言語学的・社会言語 学的アプローチ、SLAの理 論とモデル構築、バイリンガリズムと言語喪失、第二言語指導の効果、第一言 語・第二言語・第三言語での交差言 語的影響、SLA における個人差要因（年 齢、性、適性、性格、動機づけ等）、第二言語学習および使用における認知的要 因（記憶、注意等）の影響、SLA研 究の方法を扱った 研究を対象としますが、 関連するトピックであれば、これらに限定するものではありません。 PacSLRF2016での使用言語は英語およ び日本語です。

カナダのクイーンズ大学言語学科講師Lorena Jessopによる「Pronunciation instruction: From empirical research to practice」という講演会を行います。現在、授業を英語で行っている教員が増えつつあるが、自信を持って発音を教えることができる教員は少ないのではないだろうか。学習者が身につけるべき発音モデルはあるのでしょうか。国際社会で通用する明瞭な発音とはどのようなものなのでしょうか。教師はどのように発音を指導すべきなのでしょうか。このような問題に対して、近年の第二言語習得研究の知見に基づいて、参加者の皆さんと一緒に考えていきたいと思います。講演は英語で行われます。

Until recently, empirical research into how people learn to pronounce second languages has been neglected. However in the past 15 years, the focus has shifted. Additionally, many instructors neglect teaching pronunciation because they do not know where to start. This seminar will present recent research and apply it to pronunciation instruction in the English language classroom. While based upon empirical research, it will also provide practical classroom resources.

MAPLL2015 invites submissions for paper (oral) or poster presentations in any
aspects of processing and learning of human languages. Studies from a wide
range of perspectives will be considered including, but not exclusive to, those
focusing on behavioral, neural, corpus data of adults, children, native, and L2
speakers. The language of interest is not limited to Japanese.

Paper (oral) presentations are supposed to be 20 minutes long and followed by
10 minutes discussion.

All presentations should be given either in English (recommended) or
in Japanese.
Since the number of slots for oral presentations is limited, some of
the abstract will be accepted only for poster presentation.

Please submit an abstract (100 words/1600 characters MAX) to the IEICE
Technical Committee online submission system.

Content：
I will report on two semester-long longitudinal studies of L2 writing development. To situate thestudies, I will begin with a short summary of the research on language development in L2 writing based on a review article (Polio & Park, in press). I will highlight the various approaches that researchers have taken and discuss some of the methodological challenges. The first study involves a data set that was analyzed from a variety of perspectives, the results of which were published in a recent special issue of the Journal of Second Language Writing (Connor-Linton & Polio, 2014). These data were analyzed for changes in accuracy, complexity, collocation, and discourse-specific features. What is particularly striking is that change occurred over one semester in most features except accuracy. The second study (Yoon & Polio, in progress) attempted to correct some of the methodological problems in previous studies by controlling for topic and genre. Data were collect six times over the course of a semester with students alternating between narrative and argumentative genres on counterbalanced topics. For some complexity measures, change over time was found, but there was a strong genre effect. Preliminary results show little influence of time or genre on accuracy. 6. 講演者紹介：
新谷氏は、10年以上日本で英語を教えた経験をもとに、インプットタスクの英語習得における有効性でオークランド大学から博士号を授与され、シンガポールの南洋理工大学で助教ののち、現職。新谷氏の研究は第二言語習得におけるインタラクションの役割やタスク中心の教授法等で、『Language Learning』、『Studies in Second Language Acquisition』、『Applied Linguistics』など一流の国際雑誌に出版されている。著書に『Exploring Language Pedagogy Through Second Language Acquisition Research』（Routledge、2014年）等があり、現在『The role of input-based tasks in foreign language instruction for young learners』（John Benjamins）を執筆中。TESOL Quarterlyの編集委員も務める。
8. 講演内容：
「タスク」とは、教室の中で学習者が、外国語をつかってコミュニケーションをとる状況をつくり、それによって英語を使ってコミュニケーションができる力をつけることを目的にした教授法です。ですから、英語を正確に書く・読む・聴く・話す能力は、コミュニケーションの練習を通して少しずつ身に着くものであるという考えが根本にあります。「タスク」と聞くと、既に英語を発話する能力が身についた学習者が、ペアワーク・グループワークの中で行うものと考えられがちですが、英語の知識がほとんどない児童でもインプットタスクをつかってコミュニケーションを体験させることができます。このセミナーでは、タスクを小学校英語に活用する方法として、インプットタスクを提唱し、従来のpresentation-practice-production（学習項目を提示し、それを練習し、最終的にコミュニケーションを重視したアクティビティに発展させる）とどう違うのか、どのようなメリットがあるのかを、考えてみたいと思います。セミナー前半は、タスクの基本的な定義とどのような効果が期待できるのか第二言語習得理論の観点から検証します。後半は、グループに分かれて、インプットタスクと、それを発展させたアウトプットタスクを実際にデザインし、それを全体で共有しながら、「タスク」を小学校英語に活用する問題点、疑問点をみなさんと考えていきたいと思います。[:]
